Computer Weekly Best Place to Work in IT – Overall Winner 2006, Finance Sector Winner 2008 and 2009.
The judges said that the company helps staff move through the ranks by providing forward-looking training. In the IT department structural review this year, 33 of the 60 vacancies were filled by promoting people from within the IT department. In Britannia Building Society’s latest staff satisfaction survey, 91% of staff said that they are satisfied with their role, 97% with their employer and 95% would recommend working for Britannia.
In 2008, the judges said the building society was the clear winner in this category. “When can I start working there?” asked one judge. They were impressed with the focus on staff retention and by the fast-track management training scheme.
Staff said that Britannia has a good environment and a good track record on delivering IT projects using internal staff to both manage and deliver. “We have a good working relationship between all IT support teams. Britannia gives me a clear career path and training as wanted. It cares about its staff and I am more than a number”

The Judges said “Mark is more than a Service Manager. He is an integral part of the senior management team who led Britannia through huge change, replacing all of their core systems. He provided the leadership for the teams who implemented and now support these systems. In addition, Mark has delivered significant improvements in customer satisfaction together with saving £3million per annum.”
In the same year, Mark was part of the team responsible for replacing all Britannia’s core IT systems which, at the same ceremony, won financial services category and the overall flagship Business Achievement award.
